KickArts is proud to announce Lindsay Neill from Innisfail State College as the recipient of the 2018 KickArts Curator Award for the work 'Tribute to Tradition' (2018).
Traidtions provide a connection to the past and to others. They reinforce values and establish a sense of belonging. My artwork explores the age old tradition of Guyanese pottery and is an expression of my personal yearning to reconnect with my culture. The technique of pottery has been practiced in Guyana, South America for over 500 years. By physically interacting with this tradition, I have established a deeper connection, both phyiscally and emotionally, to my roots. Working completely in white has allowed me to sharpen the framework of expression and focus soley on traditional shapes and forms while also exposing the residue of my physical interaction within the textures.
