Starburst

Youth Arts Queensland Regional Mentoring Program

Starburst is a mentoring program for young people in regional and remote Queensland who have limited access to facilities, support and arts activities in their local communities and are looking for an opportunity to get their creative ideas off the ground. In 2010, 22 talented young artists and artsworkers participated in Starburst. Artists from Cairns, Mt Isa, Mt Tambourine, Mackay – all over – created exciting projects in their local community.

About Starburst

Starburst is designed for young people; 15-30 years of age, living in regional or remote Queensland, interested in music, art, craft, writing, theatre, dance, film or new media, putting on gigs or anything else creative, and running a creative project, wanting to get something off the ground, interested in working in the arts or needing to make industry connections. Participants in the program can; find out about careers in the arts and creative industries, plan and organise a creative project, connect with other creative young people and organisations that can offer support, talk to a professional working in the arts about what they do and how they got there, and of course get things happening in their local area!

2011 Participants have been announced

KickArts is pleased to announce the success of 3 local Starburst applicants: Evan Guerra (Kuranda), Jack Jans (Cairns) and Jess Jones (Malanda). Over the next seven months, the Starburst mentees for 2011 will work with their professional mentors to receive feedback, handy hints, industry experience and develop networks as well as shape their projects for showcasing.
With such an array of skills and mediums there is no doubt that this year’s Starburst is set to take off, with something to interest everyone.
